Paz Encina was born in Asunción, Paraguay. She holds a degree in Cinematography from Universidad del Cine (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Her work as a director has been screened at venues such as the Harvard Film Archives, the BAMFA / Berkeley Art Museum, the Pacific Film Archive, and New York’s MOMA. Paz Encina is the first Paraguayan director to become a member of the Hollywood Film Academy. In 2005 she premiered Hamaca paraguaya, opening the Un Certain Régard section at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2016, she premiered Ejercicios de memoria at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
