BIO

Santiago Fillol was born in the province of Córdoba in 1977. He obtained his doctorate at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, where he currently works as a professor and researcher in film and literature. In 2009, he presented his feature film Ich Bin Enric Marco at festivals such as Locarno, San Sebastián, Buenos Aires, and Rotterdam, among many others. He is the author of Historias de la desaparición, a research on disappearance and off-screen in the history of cinema (published by Editorial Shangrila). He has also worked as a screenwriter for the latest works of Oliver Laxe: Mimosas (awarded the First Prize at the International Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016), and O que arde (awarded the Jury’s Prize at the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, and the Golden Astor for Best Film and Best Screenplay at the Mar del Plata Independent Film Festival in 2019, among other honors).
