BIO

Melisa Liebenthal (Buenos Aires, 1991) is a film director and editor. She studied at the Universidad del Cine in Argentina and at Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains in France. She specialized in Editing and Dramatic Structure with professor Miguel Pérez in Argentina; and in Essay-Film at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in Cuba. She is an alumna of Berlinale Talents (2021) and FID Campus (2018). She directed the films Las lindas (2016), Constanza (2018), Aquí y allá (2020) and El rostro de la medusa (2022), with which she won awards at the Rotterdam, Mar del Plata and Berlin festivals; and with which she presented at the MoMA and the Film at Lincoln Center series, among others. Liebenthal’s work reflects on identity and its relation to the construction of an image. Her films explore and combine different materials with humor and playful spirit, from documentary and visual experimentation to fiction narrative, always keeping a vivid awareness of the specificity of each type of image.
