Martín Rejtman studied filmmaking at New York University. Before his debut feature film, Rapado (1992), he made two medium-length films: Doli vuelve a casa (1984-2004) and Sitting on a Suitcase (1986). He later directed Silvia Prieto (1999); Los guantes mágicos (2003); the documentary Copacabana (2006); Entrenamiento elemental para actores (2008), co-directed with Federico León; Dos disparos (2014); the short film Shakti (2019); La práctica (2023); and El repartidor está en camino (2024). In recent years, several retrospectives of his films have been held (BAFICI; Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, California; Valdivia Festival; Harvard Film Archive; Jeonju International Film Festival, South Korea; Lincoln Center Film Society, New York, etc). In addition to being a filmmaker, Martín Rejtman is a writer. He published Rapado (Planeta, Buenos Aires, 1992), Treinta y cuatro historias (included in A Book About Kuitca, 1993), Velcro y yo (Planeta, Buenos Aires, 1996), the screenplay of Silvia Prieto (Norma, Buenos Aires, 1999), Literatura y otros cuentos (Interzona 2005), the text of Entrenamiento elemental para actores (La Bestia Equilatera, 2012), and Tres cuentos (Mondadori, 2012), among other books. In 2018, he was awarded Argentina’s main cultural prize, the National Culture Award, for the screenplay of the film Dos disparos.
