María Álvarez directed Las cinéphilas (2017), Le temps perdu (2020) and Near and Dear (2021), a documentary trilogy that relates the passing of time with art. Her films have been screened at international festivals such as Locarnos’s IDFA, Semaine de la Critique, Thessaloniki, Göteborg, DocAviv, Mar del Plata, Gijón, DocLisboa, BAFICI, Femcine, Cartagena, La Havana, Sydney, Ceará, among many others, where she received several awards. She wrote Burn it before reading it, a theater play that won the Second Fray Luis de León Prize in Valladolid, Spain, and which was published in 2016.
