Born in 1966 in Salta, Argentina, Lucrecia Martel debuted her first feature film, La ciénaga, in 2001; this was followed by La niña santa in 2004, La mujer sin cabeza in 2008, and her fourth film, Zama, in 2017. Retrospectives of her work have been showcased in art and cultural institutions such as Harvard, MoMA, Lincoln Center, Cambridge, and London’s Tate Museum. Her recent works include the immersive installation El pasaje (2021), held at the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam; the musical one-off Terminal Norte (2021), filmed in the province of Salta with Julieta Laso in the leading role; and the short film Camarera de piso (2022), which had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. In 2023, she was awarded honorary doctorates by the University of Buenos Aires and the KU Leuven University in Belgium.
