BIO

Matías Bize, born in Santiago de Chile in 1980, is a director and screenwriter, graduated from Chile’s Film School. He was a 23 year old film student when he directed the narrative feature film Sábado, una película en tiempo real (2003). His second narrative feature film, En la cama (2005), a Chilean-German coproduction released at the Locarno International Film Festival, won the Valladolid International Film Festival, and was also recognized as the 17th Viña del Mar International Film Festival’s Best Film. His following feature film, Lo bueno de llorar (2007), a Spanish-Chilean coproduction, got the Critics Award and a Special Mention at the Valdivia International Film Festival. His fourth film, La vida de los peces, was released in 2010 with a positive reception from both critics and audiences. In 2015 he directed La memoria del agua, a co-productiuon among Chile, Spain, Argentina and Germany, starred by Benjamín Vicuña and Elena Anaya, which was released at the Venice International Film Festival. In 2019 he directed in the Diominican Republic a remake of his film En la cama under the title of En tu piel, which was distributed in countries such as Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Germany. During the Covid-19 confinement he directed the film Mensajes privados (2022), a choral project in which he invited actors to record themselves with their own cell-phones in order to build a narration based in real life stories. El castigo (2022), a movie made in a single master shot, is his last feature film to date.
