Manuel Nieto Zas (Montevideo, 1972) is part of the new generation in Uruguayan cinema. In 2006, he wrote and directed his debut feature film, The Dog Pound, which received the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival. His second film, The Militant (2013) which he wrote, directed and also produced, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and won, among other prozes, the FRIPERSCI Award at the Havana Film Festival. The employer and the employee, released in 2021 at Cannes Film Festival’s Quinzaine des réalisateurs, is his third feature film.
