BIO

Juan Fernández Gebauer is a filmmaker, cinematographer, and performer. His work intertwines fiction and documentary, investigating themes such as urban life, the concept of progress, identity, and memory. He studied film at the National School of Film Experimentation and Realization (ENERC, as per its Spanish acronym). His films have been awarded at festivals such as Mar del Plata, BAFICI, Rome, Toulouse, Málaga, Trieste, Jechon, Oaxaca, and Tokyo, among others. With Hijos nuestros, he won the award for best director under 35 at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. Chaco is shown among indigenous communities in Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay as a means of promoting indigenous struggle, and serves as a evidence in the Inter-American Court of Justice in the trials for the Namqom case. In 2019 and 2020, he carried out two residencies in Tokyo where he filmed 能 Noh, winner of the mention for the best film at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival in 2021. That year, he was selected as a Berlinale Talent and directed the series Supernova for Amazon Prime. He currently lives in Berlin, where he is editing two new projects: La fragilidad de lo real and Las manos de Perón.
