Lucila Mariani is a filmmaker hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina, where also resides. Graduated from the University of Cinema, her debut short film, Wekwaindu (2018), was selected for the BFI’s Future Film Festival 2018. Resonancias (Echoes, 2019), her second short, premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). It was also showcased at New Directors/New Films, an event organized by MoMA and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, as well as at BAFICI. Her most recent short film, Luna que se quiebra sobre la tiniebla de mi soledad (Moon that Cracks over the Darkness of my Loneliness, 2022), was introduced at the 75th Locarno Film Festival in the International Competition – Pardi di Domani. This year, Lucila is returning to the festival as part of the Locarno Filmmakers Academy. She is currently working on her first feature film, Los días libres (The Free Days), which was a participant in the Raymundo Gleyzer Federal Contest (2021), organized by Argentina’s National Film Institute (INCAA, as per its Spanish acronym) and will also be part of the Punto Género – Working Sessions, within the Ventana Sur Audiovisual Market. This year, the film participated in La Fabrique Cinema at the Cannes Film Festival. and will be part of the Iberoamerican Projects Development Course organized by Fundación Carolina and Ibermedia.
