Heartbroken, Kai arrives on vacation from Taiwan to Recife. It is hot and the air conditioning in the hotel where he is staying is not working. Kai meets Fu Ang, owner of an umbrella business. Fu Ang lends him a wrench with which he could fix the technical malfunction. Fu Ang could also become his friend, but the rainy season doesn't come and both the umbrella store and its owner surreptitiously disappear. While trying to track him down in different parts of Recife, Kai discovers the story of Xiaoxin and a group of Chinese workers who lived in the city's fanciest skyscraper. Kai finds herself strangely reflected in Xiaoxin's story.
